Illinois Senior Home Care Agency Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia Training following new Title 77 Law

New Illinois Caregiver Training Law

As of June 2, 2019, senior home care agencies in Illinois must provide specific training for senior caregivers. Caregiverlist provides this training, customized for the state laws, in a TRAINING PORTAL for senior care companies and individual caregivers.

SUBCHAPTER: MISCELLANEOUS PROGRAMS AND SERVICES

PART 973 ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE AND RELATED DEMENTIAS SERVICES CODE 

SECTION 973.140 STAFF TRAINING
c)         Staff with direct access to clients with Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia hired after June 2, 2019 shall complete a minimum of 6 hours of initial training in the first 60 days of employment using an Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias services curriculum, as defined in subsection (e).
f)     As of June 2, 2019, staff with direct access to clients with dementia shall receive 3 hours of advanced training on caring for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias each year. The mandated training shall include, at a minimum:

Illinois Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia Caregiver Training Requirements

Senior caregivers assisting seniors who have been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia, now are required to be trained on certain topics within 60 days of working in their new positions in the state of Illinois. The new caregiver training mandate for professional caregivers working for licensed senior home care agencies in Illinois, includes the following requirements for new caregivers, supervisors, and for annual renewal training.

Governor Rauner signed the legislation and the state’s regulation office for writing the implementation requirements for new laws, just issued the new training mandate this summer which requires companies to begin following the memory loss training guidelines for caregivers as of June 2, 2019.

Senior caregivers now are required to have annual caregiver training in the state of California to protect both the caregiver and the senior. The annual training must be at least 5 hours and may focus on any of the Core Competencies as outlined by the state after the passage of Assembly Bill 1217 which created the California Home Care Services Consumer Protection Act.

Professional caregivers working with seniors in their homes will now receive California Caregiver Training with information on home safety and policies and procedures and privacy policies, safe transfers and environmental safety along with all the basic caregiving skills review for their initial 10-hour training course.

California Caregiver Renewal Certification Requirements:

  • 5-hours of Skills Training on Age-related Illnesses and Core Requirements
  • Background Check passed and caregiver information on the state registry

California Caregiver Staff Training for Senior Caregivers

California caregivers now must be trained by senior care companies after the California state legislature passed Assembly Bill 1217. The California governor signed the bill into law and the California senior caregiver training requirement for senior care companies requires:

  • 2 Hours of Orientation Training
  • 3 Hours of Safety Training
  • 5 Hours of Core Competency Training

10 Hours Total Training for Year 1 followed by:

  • 5 Hours of Annual Core Competency Training
