CA Workplace Violence Law

Last year, California Governor Gavin Newsom signed Senate Bill 553 into law, mandating that employers with at least 10 employees in the state develop and implement a Workplace Violence Prevention Plan (WVPP) by July 1, 2024. This legislation requires employers to train their staff on the WVPP, teaching them how to identify and avoid workplace violence, and to create and maintain a violent incident log. The California Occupational Safety and Health Administration (Cal/OSHA) mandates that certain high-risk industries, such as healthcare, social services, and law enforcement, have a Workplace Violence Prevention Plan in place. These measures are crucial for ensuring a safe working environment for all employees.
