California Caregiver Staff Training for Senior Caregivers

California caregivers now must be trained by senior care companies after the California state legislature passed Assembly Bill 1217. The California governor signed the bill into law and the California senior caregiver training requirement for senior care companies requires:

  • 2 Hours of Orientation Training
  • 3 Hours of Safety Training
  • 5 Hours of Core Competency Training

10 Hours Total Training for Year 1 followed by:

  • 5 Hours of Annual Core Competency Training

To Become a Certified Caregiver in California you must:

  • Pass a Background Check
  • Secure Caregiver Training Annually
  • 2-hour Orientation Training, 3-hour Safety Training and 5-hour Core Competency Training in Year 1

California trained caregivers will receive 10-hours of training their first year followed by an additional 5 hours of training annually to review core competencies and expand upon their age-related senior care learning.
